Tuesdays, October 30 through December 4, 2018
Instructor: Drew Lichtenberg
Prior Experience: Not required.
From the high comedies and tragedies to the history plays, problem comedies, and late romances, Shakespeare was a master of many different genres which continue to fascinate and challenge us. This class will allow you to explore the diverse world of Shakespeare’s poetics, exploring the theatrical, historical, cultural and political context of 6 of Shakespeare’s works in depth. It will also answer the eternal questions: what is dramaturgy and what does a Dramaturg do on productions written by the Bard? Learn from Drew Lichtenberg (STC’s Literary Manager and Resident Dramaturg) how to prepare Shakespeare’s plays for the rehearsal room and, more importantly, how to read them for the stage. You will never look at Shakespeare the same way again. No prior dramaturgy experience required.
