PLAYING COMEDY WITH NANCY ROBINETTE

Tuesdays, November 13 through December 18, 2018
Instructor:  Nancy Robinette
Prior Experience: Fundamentals of Scene Study or equivalent required.

Learn how to play a scene for every last laugh! With coaching from gifted comedic actor and Helen Hayes Award-winner Nancy Robinette, learn how to tackle both classic and contemporary comedic scenes. Students will explore comedic style appropriate to some of the funniest scenes in dramatic literature, tackling skills in physical and vocal performance, language, and character.

From the Syllabus:

Week One: Introductions, improvisations, group teamwork
Week Two:  Cold readings of monologues and physical comedy work
Week Three:  Perform comic monologue, and then a second time with adjustments from instructor
Week Four:  Perform scene 1, a contemporary comic scene, with a partner
Week Five:  Perform scene 1 again, memorized, more fully rehearsed outside of class with partner
Week Six:  Perform scene 2, a classical scene, also rehearsed outside of class with partner
