Forget the field trip. Bring live classical theatre to your elementary school!
Want your students to experience live Shakespeare without leaving school? STC Education’s School Shows will come to you! School Shows are created for elementary-age students, using the text and themes of Shakespeare plays. Each hour-long experience includes a performance with six actors and an interactive experience for students.
A Mini-Summer Night’s Dream
Based on William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream but designed for young audiences, Mini-Summer transports students to the court of Athens and the world of Puck’s magical forest. Watch the lovers chase each other through the woods and the rude mechanicals perform a hilariously silly play. After the performance, students will get dramatic themselves through group activities and a discussion with the cast.
The Tiny Tempest
Based on William Shakespeare’s The Tempest but envisioned for young audiences, The Tiny Tempest begins with a storm at sea and a shipwreck upon a magical island. Meet the sorcerer Prospero and his enchanted spirit Ariel. Discover the enchanted island and the characters that inhabit it, including the young lovers Miranda and Ferdinand, the native creature Caliban and the comic duo Trinculo and Stephano. After the performance, students will get dramatic themselves through group activities and a discussion with the cast.
What is the appropriate age group for these performances?
Our school shows have been created for grades K-5.
Who are the performers?
All of our cast members are professional actors and STC Affiliated Teaching Artists.
Can I schedule multiple performances in one day?
Yes, we are delighted to perform several shows in one day so all your students can share the experience.
What is the maximum audience size?
Our only limitation is the capacity of your school’s performance space. The interactive portion of the show can be adjusted to accommodate groups of many different sizes.
What kind of performance space is required?
We need a large performance area that is slightly separated from the audience. A stage is ideal; however, we can perform in a gymnasium or cafeteria. To create a dramatic atmosphere for the show, we also need an audio system to play music and sound cues. If you have questions or concerns about your school’s space, please get in touch. We would be happy to talk through the logistics.
