Our special program of three TWB-commissioned works by three dancer/choreographers in an evening with three distinct perspectives on dance and life is a few days away. Clifton Brown, Gemma Bond and Marcelo Gomes have been working with our dancers on their new works, and we are all eager to share with you their energetic pieces, and we are proud that TWB continues to annually commission new repertoire that supports the development of dancers and choreographers.

Clifton opens our program with his first commission for a major ballet company. Created to Gioachino Rossini’s Duet for Cello and Double Bass, Menagerie brings the delightful score to life with charm, intriguing couplings and unexpected wit.

Gemma was inspired by her interest in showing more variety of female identities in dance. Her work for 6 women and one man focuses on the many roles that women play in life. We are proud to present this world premiere during Women’s History Month. MYRIAD is performed to Baroque sonatas and songs of Henry Purcell.

Marcelo draws on Antonin Dvořák’s String Quartet No. 12 in F Major as his inspiration for his narrative ballet The Outset. The “American Quartet” was composed by Dvorak during a summer holiday in a small Czech immigrant community in Iowa in 1893 and explores the security of belonging to a tight-knit group and one man’s desire to explore a world beyond.
